In-Person Classes
Yoga Classes in Rishikesh Where the Practice Has Roots
In-person yoga classes at our Tapovan centre in Rishikesh. Small groups, experienced teachers, early morning and evening sessions. Designed for visiting students short stays, longer immersions, and everything between.
The environment that shapes the practice here
Rishikesh has been a centre of serious yoga study since at least the early 20th century, when the Sivananda Ashram was established by Swami Sivananda on the banks of the Ganges. Over the following decades, it drew teachers, scholars, and practitioners who built a community of sustained practice that has continued, unbroken, through the present. What this means practically: the environment itself is saturated with a culture of serious practice. The teachers here have grown up around it. The schools here exist within it. The students who travel here arrive with intention.
Our centre is in Tapovan, the area of Laxman Jhula where the most dedicated schools have historically been concentrated. This is not the part of Rishikesh you find in travel photographs it is quieter, less commercial, and more serious. The Ganges is a short walk away. The surrounding hills begin just behind the town. The mornings here are genuinely different from the mornings anywhere else something students consistently remark on, without prompting, after their first session.
We are not suggesting that the location alone makes the practice. A poor teacher in a beautiful place is still a poor teacher. But a good teacher in this environment, teaching well, surrounded by a community of committed practice produces something that is genuinely different from the same teacher in a studio in any city.

When to visit
October through March is the most comfortable period cool mornings, clear skies, moderate daytime temperatures. October-November and February-March are particularly pleasant. April to June is warmer but workable. The monsoon (July-September) brings significant rainfall and can disrupt travel to Rishikesh, though our classes continue year-round. What visiting students commonly ask
Yes Rishikesh is one of the more female-traveller-friendly destinations in India, particularly the Tapovan and Laxman Jhula area where our centre is located. The area has a significant international yoga community, well-established infrastructure for visitors, and a culture of spiritual and contemplative practice that generally produces respectful behaviour. Solo female travellers arrive here regularly from all over the world. As with any travel, standard awareness and sensible precautions apply. We are happy to answer specific questions about this when you reach out.
Comfortable, breathable clothing you can move freely in. Standard yoga clothing leggings, shorts, sports tops is perfectly appropriate. For early morning sessions, bring a light layer mornings in Rishikesh can be cool, particularly from October through February. Rishikesh is a conservative community in some respects, so while yoga attire is completely normal at our centre, moving through town in minimal clothing is not customary. A simple wrap or light trousers for walking between your accommodation and the centre is considerate.
For your first class, arrive ten to fifteen minutes early to speak briefly with your teacher and settle in before the session begins. For subsequent classes, five minutes is sufficient. Early morning classes begin promptly arriving late to a 6:00 AM class disrupts the opening practice for the whole group. We ask that students who know they will be late contact us in advance rather than arriving after the session has begun.
Tell us when you are coming. We will plan the rest.
